I think that CRM should allow custom entities records to be merged, possibly as a check box as they do now with Mail Merge.

This would be a very helpful feature in future additions so coders/programmers are not needed when creating custom entities in CRM.

When people are moving from other systems, a lot of people like the duplicate detection feature in Dynamics CRM and that's why they chose this product. So to make it so they cannot merge these duplicate custom entity records seems backwards.

It seems at one point we were able to merge custom entity records and with the v9 releases are no longer able to do so. I agree with the original reporter: this is a critical feature. What good is duplicate detection if it doesn't fire on create of a custom record and doesn't allow you to merge records once the duplicates are identified? Allowing users to create duplicate detection rules for custom entities then only providing the option to deactivate or delete duplicates without merging to resolve links to related records is like slapping lipstick on a pig and calling it a super model.

This would be a very useful platform level update. There is a decent framework behind the merge action to gather data from various copies of a record and update references. Why keep it restricted to a handful of entities (Account, Contact, Lead and Incident)? MS needs to invest more in data cleansing and duplicate detection rules. Please allow this feature to be enabled via an entity level setting for custom/core entities. This way notes taken on multiple copies of custom records and any related records can be kept clean.

It would be helpful If I could customize the merging process. E.g. which (custom) entities should be merge and based on certain conditions which entities (records?) should not be considered. The later one could be probably done by capturing the merge event, though.

Thank you for your feedback. Currently this is not in our immediate roadmap, however, we are tracking it and if we indeed get more feedback and votes, we may consider it in future. Thanks Anusha Shankar
